Giorgio Armani turns 91 on July 11, 2025, and he remains the last true independent in luxury. While Gucci changes designers and LVMH buys everything, Armani still owns 100% of his company, still lives above his Milan atelier, and still does the final fitting himself.
In 2024, the Armani Group posted €2.4 billion in revenue — flat, but profitable, with zero debt. In 2026, that’s the real flex.
THE EMPIRE
Founded: 1975, with his late partner Sergio Galeotti.
Structure: Privately held. Armani has no shareholders, no board pressure. His succession plan is locked in a foundation, to be activated after his death.
Brands: Giorgio Armani (couture), Emporio Armani, Armani Exchange, Armani Privé, Armani Casa, Armani Hotels, Armani Beauty (L’Oréal license), Armani/Dolci chocolates.
He is worth an estimated $7.5 billion, but still takes the tram to work in Milan.
FASHION: THE QUIET POWER SUIT
Armani invented power dressing in the 1980s — soft shoulders for American Gigolo, deconstructed suits for Hollywood. In 2025-2026, nothing has changed except the customer.
Womenswear: The Spring 2025 Emporio show was all liquid greys, no logos, trousers cut to move. Prices from €650. The Privé couture show in Paris (January 2026) featured 68 looks of hand-beaded midnight blue — starting at €80,000, sold to 12 clients in the room.
Menswear: Timothée Chalamet wore a black velvet Armani to the Oscars 2025 — no shirt, no tie. It became the most-searched red carpet look of the year.
Signature: No monogram, no hype. As Armani told Financial Times in 2025: “Elegance is not about being noticed. It’s about being remembered.”
BEAUTY & LIFESTYLE: THE INVISIBLE CASH
Beauty: Armani Beauty (L’Oréal) does over €1.2bn annually. Acqua di Giò (launched 1996) is still a top-5 men’s fragrance worldwide. The new My Way perfume with Sydney Sweeney is 2025’s bestseller in the US.
Hotels: Armani Hotel Milano and Armani Hotel Dubai (in the Burj Khalifa). A suite in Dubai starts at $1,800 — designed by Armani himself, down to the ashtrays.
Casa: Armani/Casa furniture, sold in 40 countries. A sofa costs €18,000 and has a 6-month wait. No advertising — just architects specifying it.
GOSSIP & SUCCESSION
The only gossip around Armani is who will take over — and he refuses to answer.
No heir: No children. His nieces Roberta and Silvana, and longtime right-hand Pantaleo Dell’Orco, run day-to-day operations.
2025 health scare: Missed one show in Milan due to flu — headlines worldwide. He returned the next day for the final bow.
Celebrity circle: Still close to Cate Blanchett (20-year muse), Julia Roberts, and Leonardo DiCaprio, who stays at his hotel in Dubai. No paid ambassadors — they wear Armani because he calls them personally.
In 2026, he confirmed the foundation will prevent a sale to LVMH or Kering. “My company will outlive me, but it will not be sold,” he said.
Independence as luxury. In a world of conglomerates, owning yourself is the ultimate status.
Aging as authority. At 91, Armani doesn’t chase Gen Z — Gen Z comes to him for tailoring classes on TikTok.
Consistency as strategy. 50 years of the same color palette — greige, navy, black — and it still sells.
As he said backstage in June 2025, after his 50th anniversary show: “I don’t do fashion. I do style. Fashion changes. Style remains.”
In 2026, with most designers lasting 3 years, Giorgio Armani is still in his atelier at 8 a.m., pinning a jacket. The most luxurious thing in fashion isn’t a new creative director. It’s a founder who never left.
